Next season's Betting Strategy

Postby Selectabet » Mon Jun 20, 2011 8:51 pm

I know it's early days but has anyone given thought to any strategies for next season?

Or are you looking at any new markets, both to score? or new leagues?

Been thinking about this for a few months to try and hopefully limit the stupid bets I sometimes put on. Will post up what I eventually decide on.

Singles, singles, singles. If anyone catches me putting on more than a single you have permission to slap me across the chops :boxing:

Probably a good idea Selectabet. And go with your gut. A Selectabet singles tip thread would be good!
If I go singles I have to look for good value. I'd never risk lumping a heap on a low odds favourite.

For trebles was thinking of doing it as 3 x doubles. Opinion Selectabet? Would probably do this in the overs/both to score market. This will mainly be in Norwegian, Dutch, Swiss leagues. But got to have an interest on a Sat afternoon in England/Scotland too!
I really like both to score but I worry it's getting too popular & the odds will keep getting reduced.

I've been telling myself this for ages but still get drawn into trebles. Nice when they come up but so often I'm let down by one match.

I'm planning to look more at doing singles on Over 2.5 and Both to Score next season. Probably still do a Saturday small stake treble too.

Good Idea. I'd like for each of us to have thread of our own where we keep track of our own bets. You know, with a running total. It might help us all stay disciplined. And would also allow others to follow those that are doing well. What do you think?

Matty wrote:For trebles was thinking of doing it as 3 x doubles. Opinion Selectabet?

Oh yes. I forgot about my TRIXIE (3xDoubles & 1xTreble = 4 Bets) bets. These have been good for me recently. If you pick three bets at evens, you only need two right to get your money back. All three and your quids in. Good strategy for a Saturday when there's loads of games on.

SO if anyone sees me betting on anything other than Singles or Trixies they have permission to slap me about the chops ;)

Yeah, easier said than done dribbler eh? That was the basis of my £10k Challenge - one bet at a time. Might have to resurrect that for the new season.

I've started a spreadsheet to keep track of all my bets. Easy to do if you're just betting singles.

I'll be using Google Documents, which has an excel-like spreadsheet. It's ideal for updating if you're betting online and if like me you use a number of different computers, you can access it from anywhere.

It simple enough, but will let me keep track of my wins and losses and keep a running total. Will also hopefully help me see which bets I win on and which kind I lose on.

I use Excel to keep track of my bets. It makes grim reading sometimes.
Don't know Google Documents but will check it out. It would be handy to be able to access on different computers.

Just spent half an hour checking out Google Docs and it seems to do the business.

Recently treated myself to an i-Pad and very pleased to find that I can import data from Excel spreadsheets and edit while on the move.

Thanks SB.

Final list of rules for myself before the season starts:

Only bet singles.
Only bet on Football.
Don't back anything with odds less than 1.5
Research every bet I put on.
Only bet on Results, Over/Unders and Both Teams to Score.

I'm hoping that I stick to this as these are probably my favourite markets and if I can last the whole season sticking to this I'll be happy despite my almost guaranteed losses.

Liking the idea of tracking bets on a spreadsheet, I've just downloaded my last 3 months of bets on Betfair and I'm pleasantly surprised that I'm only down 7.53 for that period.

My spreadsheet is looking good so far this month.

Already I can see that I'm no good at betting on Horse Racing (I had two tips - both lost) and Golf.

If anyone wants to start their own thread to keep track of their bets on here then please feel free. If it helps keep you disciplined ;)

I've kept a speadsheet for a while now and it does help. Recently with various golf wins it's looking very healthy and I have been very good hardly even touching the footy.

This will be tested however once there is a full schedule of fixtures.
