That’s brought my balance down to earth with a bump. £109.81 lost means I’m back to £164.72. Onwards and upwards though, I’m still in profit and there will be setbacks along the way – it’s so annoying when it’s a 4/7 shot that bombs though!

I’m out most of the day so it looks like just one bet (unless I get home earlier than expected) and I’m off to Norway for a 5pm kick off in the Eliteserien.10k challenge,

An unusual one this as it features two teams nearer the bottom of the table. 13th place Aalesund host Brann and I expect there will be goals. There’s certainly history of it whenever both sides meet. 10 of the last 11 clashes have seen over 2.5 goals, and the same number have featured both teams scoring.

Although 12th in the table, Brann are joint 2nd top scorers with 17 in their first 9 of the campaign. Aalesund aren’t too far behind with 12. Both look capable of shipping goals too, losing 15 and 14 respectively.

Brann’s star striker Kim Ojo is back on form having struck in their 5-0 win over Sogndal last week. But Aalesund are unbeaten at home so far this season so there’s a decent chance it’ll end all square. I had been swaying between backing over 2.5 goals or Boths to score but I think this could be a share of the spoils so will go with both sides scoring.

I rate this an 8/10 chance so will stake 80% of my max allowable (I’m limiting myself to betting no more than 50% of my balance on any bet). Best odds I can find are 4/7 at Paddy Power.

I was waiting on the Lunds result coming through. Once they’d won I had to get a quick bet on Celta Vigo game that kicked off at 5.

I couldn’t decide which way to go earlier. Vigo look nailed on but not backable at 1/5. I liked the look of them scoring 2 or more but that was just 1/4 – no value either. To score another one took it up to a healthier 10/11. It’s possibly not the bet I’d have gone for so have kept my stake relatively small.

My new balance after Bet number 3 is £215.70. Ive rate this a 6/10 bet for me so my stake is 60% of my max bet stake (max bet is 50% of my balance).

Two wins out of two and it’s a decent start to the £10,000 Challenge (turning £100 into £10,000) so onto bet number 3 today.

I’m off to Sweden and backing top of the table Lunds BK in the Division 1 Södra. For a side that normally finds itself in the tier below they’re making a good stab at staying up. This is their 3rd season at this level having previously finished 5th and 6th so it’s a real surprise to see them top the table.

Results suggest that they’re going to make a decent challenge at the top this season and their campaign couldn’t have started any better; 5W 0D 0L, 12 scored, without a goal conceded.

They’re away to Norrby who sit third from bottom after 5 games. They finished 9th last season and look set for another struggle.

If it goes to form this should be an away win for Lunds. I rate this a 7/10 chance so will be staking 70% of my max allowable (I’m limiting myself to no more than 50% of my total balance).

I’ve found cracking odds of 21/20 at Titan Bet – this looks well over-priced when you consider they’re just 83/100 at bwin. Titan Bet only take bets in Euros so my stake of £55.20 is currently converting to €68.31.

My new £10k Challenge (start with £100, gamble all the way to £10k) got off to a winning start with Maribor delivering the goods in a 2-1 win last night at odds of 3/5.

With £50 staked of my original £100 starting point, the balance has been boosted to £130. So onto today’s Bet of the Day.

There’s not much to choose from today so I’m turning my attention the Airtricy League in Ireland where surprise league leaders Sligo Rovers host Shelbourne. Promoted Shelbourne have made a great start to the season and sit 5th in the table after the first round of matches.

However a closer look at their results shows that they’ve won 12 of their 18 points against the four sides at the foot of the table. That doesn’t make them a bad side, in fact they’re very organised and have demonstrated in 2 draws against St Pats and Sligo earlier in the season that they can hold their own against some of the better sides.

Sligo have made an even better start to the season and been very impressive at home, most notably in their 3-0 win over Shamrock Rovers last week, although the hoops ended up with 9 men. If they can take that form into tonight’s game then they should be too good for an over-performing Shelbourne side.

I’m backing Sligo at 8/15 with Blue Sq which looks like the best odds available. I can’t say that I’m 100% confident of this one, and I rate it 8/10. There for I’m staking 80% of my maximum allowed bet (max is 50% of my current bank).

The idea is to start with a £100 bank and bet on one game at time, trying to turn it into £10,000. Sounds ridiculous and frankly it probably is but let’s give it a go.

I’m setting myself a few rules so as to keep my discipline;

- I can’t bet any more than half my bank on any single bet – this means that I won’t blow the challenge completely should I go on a losing run

- I need to shop around for the best odds. I don’t care where I bet because in the long run the difference of a point or two in each bet could mean reaching the £10k earlier

- I’ll post each bet here and keep a record of all bets and balances. Any late bets will be posted on twitter @selectabet

NK Celje v NK Maribor

So here goes worth my first bet and it’s tomorrow in Slovenia where champions elect NK Maribor should win away to mid-table Celje.

“The Purples” look head and shoulders above everything else in the league and are 22 points clear with 2 games to play. They’re on a run of 8 wins that has seen them score 32 goals. They’ve also won 6 of the last 7 meetings with tomorrow’s opponents, with an aggregate score of 19-4.

As long as things go to form then Maribor should deliver a win against a side that’s won just 3 at home this season (from 17).

Best price is at BetVictor where the away side are 3/5.

Last time I did this it ended with a bit of a whimper as I finished the year in the black – but only just. So I’m giving it a go again in 2011. The idea is that I start with £250 and try to make it to £10,000 over the course of 12 months betting on football.

My favoured bet will probably be betting on the Under/Over 2.5 goals markets as that has given me most success in the past but I’ll be casting my eyes over everything and if anything takes my fancy I’ll be piling in.

I’m going to start off with the match between Sparta Rotterdam and Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch First Division to finish Over 2.5 goals.

Despite sitting 9th in the table Sparta are the third highest scorers in the league with 39 goals in 16 games to almost score 2.5 goals per game themselves. Go Ahead aren’t too far behind them on 32 and have score 15 in their last 4. Furthermore Sparta have scored 31 of their 39 at home, almost 4 a game.

Matches between the two appear to produce goals too. 8 of the last 10 have seen more than 2 goals and on only occasion has either side failed to score.

Paddy Power have some of the best odds on this market and go 8/15 on the Over 2.5 option.
