Arsenal v Watford Betting Preview: Holders to progress past Hornets

FA Cup holders Arsenal host Watford at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday in the FA Cup quarter-finals, with the home side looking to keep alive their hopes of winning the trophy for a third straight season.

FA Cup holders only confirmed their passage to the last eight with a 4-0 victory at Championship Hull in a fifth round replay on Tuesday night. Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud both scored braces to put the holders in the quarter-finals of a competition they have won in consecutive campaigns.

The Gunners have enjoyed a rather poor spell of late, having failed to win in four games in all competitions prior to the win over Hull.

They do however have a good record in this competition, winning eight of their last games in the FA Cup. The Gunners have also scored two or more goals in nine of their last 11 games in the competition.

Recent history also favours Arsene Wenger’s side, as they have beaten Watford in the last six meetings in all competitions. The Gunners are odds of 8/13 with Coral to make that seven consecutive wins.

Watford have enjoyed a solid first season under Spanish boss Quique Sanchez Flores, but will head to north London more in hope than expectation of a win. Flores’ team have won all their FA Cup games by 1-0 and have struggled for goals in recent weeks.

In fact the Hornets have failed to score in five of their last seven outings in all competitions, with deadly strike-force Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney going through a dry patch in front of goal.

Watford seems like unlikely victors in this clash, but you just never know in football and they can be backed at odds of 11/2 with Bet365 to come out on top in this clash.

The draw may be tempting bet at odds of 10/3 with SkyBet, especially as the Gunners failed to find a way past Hull at the Emirates in the last round.

Big Tip

I cannot look past a home win in this clash, but Watford does not concede many goals. However, they do not score many either, so I am going to go for a home win with under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 3/1 with StanJames.
