Sunderland v Manchester United betting preview: Red Devils prove to be bad luck for Black Cats

Sunderland host Manchester United in the early kick-off in the Premier League on Saturday with crucial points at stake at both ends of the table.

Sunderland are in real trouble at the bottom end of the Premier League table, second from bottom and four points from safety.

However, in truth the Black Cats have not been playing that poorly, but unlike most Sam Allardyce teams of the past they have been poor at the back, and have conceded the most goals in the top-flight season.

Whether the side from the north east can turn decent form into a win remains to be seen, but you can back them at odds of 21/5 with BetVictor.

One positive from the recent Sunderland games has been the form of Jermain Defoe, who is the Black Cats top scorer with ten top-flight goals this season. The former-Spurs striker looks a good bet for first goalscorer at odds of 17/2 at BetVictor.

Manchester United have produced far more attractive football in the past few games, as boss Louis van Gaal has released the reigns slightly. The Red Devils were unlucky not to have won at Chelsea last time out, as a stoppage-time goal rescued a point for the Blues.

United looked more of a threat in the first half at Stamford Bridge though and suddenly look like they are capable of scoring goals once again. Van Gaal’s side are odds of  4/5  to win this clash with BetVictor.

For those who like to get splinters in their backsides the draw is odds of 11/4 with Totesport.

Big Tip

With United now looking more dynamic in attack and Sunderland being poor in defence my big tip is a United victory and over 2.5 goals scored, which is available at odds of 2/1 with Paddy Power. Not especially good odds, but seems a decent bet.
