The exits of Radamel Falcao and Robin Van Persie from Old Trafford have left a huge gap in Manchester United’s squad ahead of the start of the new season.
Falcao has of course pitched up at title rivals Chelsea whilst Van Persie has signed for Turkish side Fenerbahce meaning Louis Van Gaal needs to strengthen his attacking options pretty quickly. The big move this week has seen Bastian Schweinsteiger join United from Bayern Munich and with Srgio Ramos also rumoured to be in line for a move to Old Trafford the Red Devils don’t look like they’re about to stop spending big just yet.
And that brings us on to the latest transfer target that is doing the rounds. Uruguyan striker Edison Cavani is the name on those ‘in-the-knowers’ lips as he’s been touted as the replacement striker for Robin Van Persie. The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson told Talksport he was United’s “prime target” to lead the line for Van Gaal next season.
The PSG frontman scored an impressive 31 goals last term and would be ideal foil for Wayne Rooney.
There’s still some value in the betting market on this one with Cavani at 9/2 (Ladbrokes) to have signed for United by the end of the transfer window. SkyBet rate him 10/11 to still be at PSG whilst other clubs featuring in the betting include Juve (8/1), Atletico Madrid (16/1) and Arsenal (16/1).
