Swansea City will be hoping to strengthen their chance of European football next season when they entertain in-form Manchester City in Sunday’s lunchtime kick off.
The Welsh outfit overcame Arsenal last time out, their third consecutive victory, to move within two points of sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and just one shy of Southampton in seventh.
Following Monday’s success over the Gunners, Swansea boss Garry Monk believes his side can clinch a Europa League spot.
The 36-year-old told the Daily Mail; “I said that before the game, over the weekend, the good thing about playing on Monday night was that we saw the results and that the places above us had opened up with the results, so why shouldn’t we be pushing for that?
“Why shouldn’t we be pushing those teams above and go on the hunt for them?
“Today we showed what we’re about. We’ll see where the next two games take us. This club wants to progress.
“It’s down to hard work. The players have shown they can adapt – that’s why we are where we are.”
Second-placed Manchester City head into the fixture having won their last four outings, including last Sunday’s demolition of Queens Park Rangers. A Sergio Aguero hattrick along with goals from Aleksandar Kolarov, James Milner and David Silva secured a resounding 6-0 win – their second consecutive clean sheet.
The Blues’ leading scorer Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero has already notched 25 goals this campaign to go along with 17 form last term but manager Manuel Pellegrini believes there is still more to come form the Argentine forward.
Speaking after the QPR fixture, Pellegrini explained; “When I see Kun playing the way he played today I’m happy how he is improving. It is not the same Aguero that played one year ago.
“He understands he must work harder, he receives a lot more ball. He is working harder during the week. In the way he continues improving, he will continue improving in the future.
“He is just 26. He must be a very important player in the future of this club. He was already but I think he must continue improving in the way he plays.”
This should be a tough encounter but, with an in-form Aguero and solid recent results on their side, 3/4 for a Manchester City win with Betfred is a good bet. If you want a bit more value, Paddy Power are offering 8/5 for Aguero to find the net and Manchester City to win.
