FA Cup Quarter-Final Replay. Kick-off: Wednesday 19:45. Live on BT Sport 1
Liverpool will be looking to secure a place in the FA Cup semi-final when they travel to Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening.
Despite many predicting an easy victory for Brendan Rodgers’ side when the draw was made, Rovers managed to force a replay by holding out for a 0-0 draw at Anfield last month.
However, the FA Cup tie comes at a bad time for the Reds, who fell away in the race for a top four finish in the Premier League on Saturday, following a second straight loss at the hands of a rampant Arsenal side.
Despite securing a return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2009/10 campaign last season, Liverpool now appear destined for another stint in the Europa League.
The 4-1 defeat at Arsenal saw Jordan Henderson put away Liverpool’s only goal from the penalty spot, which took his tally up to four goals in his last six appearances. Henderson can be backed to continue this form at Ewood Park by scoring at any time at 21/4 with 888 Sport.
Blackburn have done well to progress to the later stages of the cup competition, considering they have lingered around mid-table in the Championship for much of the season.
Gary Bowyer managed to end a slump of back-to-back defeats against promotion-chasers Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion by securing an impressive 3-0 victory over Leeds on Saturday, extending their unbeaten run away from home to six games.
Despite the 0-0 draw last time out, both sides will be desperate to secure qualification to the next round. Rovers go into the FA Cup tie in fine goalscoring form, having put the ball in the back of the net nine times in their last five fixtures. Three of these five fixtures saw three or more goals scored each time.
Liverpool have also managed to score at least once in four of their last five games, so goals are likely to be on the cards. A final score of over 3.5 goals can be backed at 13/5 with BetVictor.
Liverpool’s front-men have struggled to find the back of the net this season, having scored just 12 goals between them. However, Daniel Sturridge, who starred for the Reds alongside Luis Suarez last season, is just starting to find his feet again after a season marred by injuries. Despite only managing half of the game against Arsenal, Mario Balotelli’s knee injury could see Sturridge take centre stage in a tie that Rodgers will be desperate to win.
While a victory for Rodgers’ side seems the most likely outcome, Blackburn cannot be ruled out.
Given that Liverpool have been shaky in recent weeks, and Rovers have already pulled off shock victories over Premier League sides Stoke City and Swansea in the previous two rounds, which ended 4-1 and 3-1 respectively, they are still in with a chance of making the final four. A shock Blackburn victory can be backed at 5/1 with Betfred.
