Not a great start for predictions on day 1 at Wimbledon. Lets see If we can do any better on day 2
L Kubot 8/11 Bet365 to beat J Struff – The Pole did so well here last year and is defending big points. If he doesn’t he will drop heavily in the rankings. Hopefully he will regain some form and confidence against German Struff. Kubot is lacking wins but did take a set of Gulbis at Roland Garros and lost to Halle finalist Falla in the 1st round in Germany in 3 sets. Struff is at a near career high and played well all year. The German defeated Rosol in The Netherlands last week and will be tough, but I think Kubot will win at least a round in Wimbledon 2014.
P Herbert 11/8 Bet365 to beat J Sock – The American is the favourite in this match and these is no doubt the 21 year old is a big talent. He has limited experience though on grass and Herbert has 3 qualifying matches of practice to rely on and big serve. I don’t think Jack will have it easy and Herbert could cause a surprise.
T Townsend 7/4 Bet365 to beat K Koukalova – The Czech is very experienced and higher ranked which shows in her odds. Klara can mix up her shots and can hit flat which may unnerve Taylor. Townsend though reached the junior final in 2013 and her coach Zina Garrison is a former finalist back in 1990 so Taylor will be prepared well. If the American goes for her shots and they go in then she can win. If her play is erratic then Klara can clean up. Worth a punt though.
