Seeds Genie Bouchard and Kaia Kanepi both had very straight forward wins in the 1st round in WTA Oeiras and I expect them to come through their 2nd round matches on Wednesday too. Bouchard faces Shvedova. The Canadian is one of the brightest talents on the WTA tour and should get the better of an unpredictable Yaroslava. The Kazak is very good clay court player, but is not in the form that gave her a big run in the French Open a few years ago.
Kaia Kanepi will play Romanian Begu in round 2. The Estonian dominated Meusburger in round 1 and the serve looked to be working well. Again Begu is very capable on her day but is not in great form and I expect Kanepi to make it into the QFs.
