This year’s William Hill Scottish Cup officially begins this afternoon when the big boys enter in Round 4. Dundee United signalled their intent with a thumbing 5-2 win over hopeless Kilmarnock in the Friday night match, a result that cut their outright odds from 14/1 to 8/1 with Scots firm McBookie. There’s some value to be had in Saturday’s fixtures, so let’s hope the winning run continues…
Berwick Rangers v Dumbarton
Ian Murray’s Dumbarton have had two weeks to prepare for this fixture, so they should be raring to go at League Two Berwick this afternoon. Twenty places separate the two sides in Scotland’s football pyramid, and that should be evident throughout the ninety minutes. Dumbarton have been inconsistent this season, but remain just five points off a play off spot, and were well worth their 3-1 victory at Livingston last time out. Berwick won their home fixture versus Albion Rovers last weekend, but that was their first league win in eight matches. Back Andy Graham to lead his side to a professional victory at a shade under even money, 20/23 with McBookie and BetVictor.
Albion Rovers v Motherwell
The gulf between these two sides is even greater than the one above, and I strongly fancy the Premiership side to knock a few goals past struggling ‘Vers. The Coatbridge side have moved today’s fixture to Hamilton’s New Douglas Park, further reducing the chance of an upset. The half time/full time market isn’t great, so we look to the handicaps and -2 should be covered with relative ease by the Fir Park men. Ladbrokes and Paddy Power go 6/5 about the -2, a price I’ll be snapping up. The ambitious punters should be rewarded with the -3 handicap too, available at 12/5 with McBookie and cup sponsors William Hill.
