Inverness CT v Partick Thistle
Scottish Premiership, Sunday 20th October 12.45pm KO
Live on Sky Sports 4
This week I am going to focus on the encounter between 2nd placed Inverness CT and 8th placed Partick Thistle at the Caledonian Stadium. Both teams will be looking to pick themselves up after disappointing results prior to the international break. Inverness are best price 19/20 (William Hill) for the win with Partick Thistle 7/2 (Boylesports) for an away win and 13/5 (Bet365) for the draw.
I really fancy Inverness for the win in this match and my main reason for this is the fear factor the players will have after losing 4-0 to St Johnstone in their last outing. I know this sounds a crazy betting theory but I know Terry Butcher and I have no doubt he would have gone off his rocker at his players and there is no way they will be putting in a repeat performance let me tell you.
I would also point out that although the 4-0 defeat raised a few eyebrows it is not as if St Johnstone don’t have a good team and a number of players who can find the net. Indeed they also thumped Ross County by the same score line earlier in the season, so that result doesn’t bother me and I see Inverness bouncing back.
Expect Butcher to have firmly installed the need to win this match to put them back on track to what is looking likely to be the best season in the clubs history. Their home form is 100% solid this year winning all 4 games played so far by either 2 or 3 goals and without conceding. So in my view they just have to forget about the last game and put it down to a bad day at the office and play the way they normally do to claim 3pts.
Possible Lineup: Brill, Devine, Shinnie, Warren, Meekings, Doran, Draper, Polworth, Ross, McKay (4-3-1-2)
I watched the Partick v Hibs game and still don’t know how Hibs came away with a 1-0 win in a match that the Jags dominated from start to finish. The old adage of if you don’t score you can’t win springs to mind though. This has been Partick’s main problem this year, they really do lack a proven goal scorer or probably being fair to striker Doolan he lacks the support in the final quarter.
They play pretty football and like to get the ball down the flanks but miss that lethal edge in front of goal. Results are starting to show they are beginning to struggle a bit now with no wins in their last 5 games, however the majority of their points have actually been achieved on the road rather than at home.
Possible Lineup: Fox, O’Donnell, Muirhead, Balatoni, Taylor-Sinclair, Osbourne, Welsh, Lawless, Craigen, Bannigan, Doolan (4-2-3-1)
Verdict: Inverness 2-0 Partick Thistle
I’m all over Inverness to bounce back from a heavy defeat with all 3pts here, they have the strong physical presence to sweep Partick Thistle off the park and the players will be geed on by the fear of the wrath of another Terry Butcher dusting down should they not put in a performance. Home form suggests a comfy home win but I’m sure Partick will make them work for it but 19/20 for a home win is a good price in my book….
Inverness CT to win @ 19/20 (William Hill)
In addition, I also fancy Celtic to cover the -1.5 Asian Handicap away to Hibs on Saturday’s lunchtime kick off. This is priced at 11/10 (Paddy Power) and doubled with an Inverness win would pay circa 3/1!!!
