Another good price landed last weekend as East Stirling helped overcome the disappointment of Dundee failing to get past Hamilton Accies at home. The Dens Park outfit have struggled to get going this season, but will be challenging for the Championship title come May, and are worth keeping onside in the coming weeks. The ‘Shire continued with their superb start to the season, and look value to bank another three points this weekend, but here are my fancies for week 6 of the SPFL fixtures…
Morton v Queen of the South
After knocking four past Dundee on the opening weekend, Queens have found the going tough in the second tier, and I fancy them to go home pointless from Cappielow today. Failing to find the net in their last four fixtures, Queens could be in for a long season if they fail to turn around this mini slump in form. On the other hand, the Greenock side have shown some signs of life, and were unlucky not to claim all three points last week at Livingston. If they can maintain that level of performance, and challenge Queens’ keeper with some lofted balls into the area, they’ll surely achieve only their second league win of the season. At 7/5 with McBookie, William Hill, Bet365 and SkyBet, Morton are today’s best bet.
Montrose v Peterhead
The ante post title favourites have clicked into gear in the past two fixtures, knocking in six goals when claiming as many points, and I like the look of them at odds against to make it nine out of nine at Links Park. With the highest wage bill in the division, Peterhead were always set to be one of the title contenders, and should have enough to beat a Montrose side that shipped three goals at a poor Elgin City side last time out, despite facing 10 men for the last half hour. At an attractive 11/10 with William Hill, or a standout 23/20 with McBookie, Peterhead represent good value for the three points.
