The weather is looking good and we are all set for the most prestigious major of the season.
Event: The Open Championship
Venue: Muirfield
Par: 71
Yards: 7,192
Ernie Els is the defending champion and the last Winner of the event at Muirfield in 2002. Other winners at one of my favourite courses include Nicklaus, Watson, Player and Faldo
It seems to be one of the fairest courses on the rota and a good all round test of golf. It will be playing hard and fast due to the weather as the field try and avoid the very challenging rough and pot bunkers. So here are my tips to win the Open Championship 2013.
G-Mac is the one player I backed a while ago with this event in mind. He has 3 wins this year alone and is a ‘major’ Winner.
Brought up playing Portrush in Northern Ireland, he is a superb links player. Was very impressive 2 weeks ago when winning The French Open. I think he is the one to beat this week.
I don’t normally back winners of the previous week and no-one has won The Scottish Open and The Open back to back. However, lefty is an exception as I was very impressed with his course management and putting at Castle Stuart.
Used to hate links golf but now loves it. He has all the talent, form and profile to follow in the footsteps of the multiple winners already mentioned.
A great links player and one to follow in the big events. Has won and been second at The Dunhill Links.
I also think he is coming into form at the right time – fourth in The BMW and a top 15 in France. Putting stats are very good and he has greatly improved his iron play and at 50/1 rates a very good each way bet this week
Again, a player who has good links pedigree. He was superb last week, almost going unnoticed after a poor start – he matched Mikelson’s score for the last 3 rounds!
A Ryder Cup Winner, averaging 300 yards off the tee – the Belgian is another good value each way bet here at Muirfield. I will hopefully be back with some specialist, 3 ball and in-play recommendations
Whatever happens, it looks set for an exciting week at a superb venue
