Manchester City remain second favourites at 11/5 with Betfred for the 2013/14 Premier League behind rivals Manchester United despite the announcement of their new manager, Manuel Pellegrini today.
The former Malaga boss takes over from Roberto Mancini at the Etihad Stadium and is evens to win a trophy in his first season at the club. His predecessor lost his job following a fruitless campaign last season, a repeat of that for Pellegrini’s side is 8/11.
The Chilean joins City on a three-year contract and he is 7/4 to still be at the club following that spell while he’s priced at 2/5 to leave before his deal expires.
Betfred spokesman John Hill: “This is an appointment we have all expected for a while now. Punters are unsure at the moment how big of a coup this is for City as we have hardly been knocked over just yet for them for the league next season.”
The 2011/12 champions are expected to splash the cash this summer in their bid to regain the league title. Spanish under-21 star Isco is just 4/9 to follow his former boss from Malaga. Edison Cavani is another player that has been linked with the club. He is 3/1 to sign this summer from Italian club Napoli, while Robert Lewandowski is 16/1 to move from Borussia Dortmund.
