Aston Villa v Liverpool: Sunday 31st March 1:30pm live on Sky Sports
Aston Villa face Liverpool on Sunday afternoon and they will be looking for a repeat of their 3-1 win at Anfield earlier in the season to edge themselves further clear of the Premier League drop zone.
The Villans have recorded back-to-back wins in their last two outings with a 2-1 away victory at Reading followed up with a thrilling 3-2 home triumph over fellow strugglers QPR. This one should be a stiffer test for them in a Liverpool side whose form had picked up markedly before a 3-1 defeat at Southampton last time out.
The hosts will look back at the 3-1 win in the reverse fixture with happy memories. They played fantastically well, dominated the Reds and scored some brilliant goals. Christian Benteke in particular was a big threat to the Liverpool back-line and he’ll need to be on the top of his game again if Villa are to have a chance.
With Benteke ably assisted by Gabriel Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann, they have pace in their team which will cause the Reds defence problems.
The away side have one of the contenders for Footballer of the Year in their ranks in the form of Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan continued his good form for his club into last week’s internationals and is clearly one of the in-form players in the Premier League and one the Villa defenders will have to keep a very close eye on.
Both teams have been involved in pretty high-scoring matches of late, with neither defence looking particularly solid. Although the last four meeting between these teams at Villa Park have only seen a grand total of four goals, I think that might change on Sunday. I’d back both teams to score at 4/6 (Betfred, 888 Sport, Ladbrokes).
In terms of match result, I simply cannot see why Liverpool are as short as 4/6 (SkyBet). They’ve shown very little to give me any faith in backing them at such a short price. Villa come into the game on a bit of a high and did well in the reverse fixture. That’ll be enough to get them at least a point. The draw is available at 3/1 (Bet365) and a Villa win is 21/5 (BetVictor).
