Atletico Madrid’s 21 game winning streak at home came to an unceremonious end on Thursday as they fell to a 2-0 defeat when hosting Rubin Kazan. A sign perhaps that Diego Simeone’s side are starting to struggle.
Results away from home have been poor for a while and they come into Sunday’s meeting having won just one of their last eleven on the road (a narrow 1-0 win at Getafe back in November). Despite this, Atletico are 11/10 favourites to win on Sunday which looks far too short, particularly after being defeated on Thursday night.
Valladolid have only lost one home game this season excluding inevitable defeats to Real Madrid and Barcelona. Atletico did win convincingly on their last visit here – 4-0 in 2010 – but prior to that they had not won in eight visits so it is not a ground they traditionally excel at.
Manucho should be sharper as he looks to get back to scoring since his return from the African Cup of Nations and the Angolan would be the pick at 5/2 (SkyBet) to get on the score sheet for the hosts – he scored twice when Madrid’s other side came to visit.
At odds of 14/5 we have to side with a home win given Atletico’s recent slide.
