King Kirby set to boost his 23% strike rate for 2013 at Wolverhampton.
It’s been a struggle, but I think I’ve found some value to be had in what sparse racing there is tomorrow. Wolverhampton is one of only 3 meetings, and the only one on the flat.
I’ve decided to take a punt on this race, as I feel there’s definite value in this 11 runner handicap.
The favourite, Spinning Ridge, has won 3 out of 38 at Wolves, but placed 17 times so is worth opposing at current odds of 4/1 (Paddy Power).
Daunt has only won once in 13 runs, and is 0-2 on the all-weather. However, he had a positive run last time out, and though was a length and ¾ behind Spinning Ridge, could grab a place. Michael O’Connell’s mount is best price 6/1 with Bet365, but I think there’s better to be had in this.
Fleetwoodsands has won 7 times on the a/w, 6 of those here. Paddy Power currently offer 7/1 for further success here. This horse will certainly appreciate a return to this track, but has struggled in anything better than class 6, something which can’t be said for a lot of today’s rivals.
This brings me nicely to Basle, who has won 3 and been placed a further 3 times in class 5 races, and has been placed in class 3 and 4 races too. Though he has only raced 5 times here, he’s won twice and was 3rd on another occasion.
The horse has been in good form until a 4th at Lingfield last time out, but is dropped a pound by the handicapper for that race. It may well have been a blip, but with Adam Kirby on board this time around, he should have enough quality to get the best from this horse. At 8/1 (Paddy Power) there’s definite value in it, with few better to be steering the reins than King Kirby.
Good luck if you’re having a flutter to start the week, @GregLarmouth
