Live on Sky Sports 4. Kick off: Saturday 5.15pm
Real Sociedad aim to upset the league leaders in the first of Saturday’s live televised games.
Barcelona slipped up for only the second time domestically this season as they drew 2-2 with Malaga at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night – and with Malaga reduced to ten men as well. Hope glimmers for the rest of La Liga.
Not to get too carried away by a rare blip on Tito Vilanova’s record, Barca have still won every away game they’ve played in the league this season and remain strong favourites to get the better of Malaga in the return leg this coming Thursday. Still, Real Sociedad must cling onto the hope (or delusion) that Barcelona are fallible.
A look back at the side’s previous meeting hardly inspires confidence though. Barca ran out convincing 5-1 winners in the season opener and since then they have barely missed a beat in the league, winning every game bar a 2-2 draw with Real Madrid.
One positive for Sociedad is their recent performance against Madrid. Jose Mourinho’s side were pushed all the way and were fortunate to win 4-3 in a pulsating match which saw Casillas’s replacement, Adan, sent off early on. Madrid’s reduced numbers obviously aided the Sociedad cause but the Sociedad players deserved something from the game, not least Xabi Prieto for his hat-trick – how many can boast of scoring three at the Bernabeu? Had Dani Estrada not been sent off late on for a second booking, the Basque side may well have pushed on and earned at least a draw.
Going forward at least, Sociedad can always cause problems and we expect them to find a way past Barcelona’s backline – the Catalans have only kept two clean sheets away from home in the league from their ten games. Both teams to score is therefore our pick at odds of 5/6 with BetVictor..
