Atletico Madrid have not won yet this year but are strong favourites to get off the mark as they host Real Zaragoza on Sunday.
Diego Simeone’s side have drawn both games in 2013 but their midweek 0-0 draw with Getafe in the Copa Del Rey was sufficient after they won the first leg 3-0. However, with Getafe reduced to 10 men just after the half hour mark, a win would have been expected – particularly with Falcao and Arda Turan returning to the side following suspensions.
The Colombian was taken off after an hour so should be sharp and hungry to open his account for the year so the 2/1 (Paddy Power) against the prolific forward striking first may not be the worst bet but having never found the net against Zaragoza, we are staying clear.
Zaragoza also managed to beat Atletico in the last meeting so a home win is no foregone conclusion. In addition to that, Manolo Jiminez’s side have won their last three away games – all without conceding a goal.
Last week’s loss at home to Betis was forgotten in the 2-0 cup win over Levante midweek so confidence should remain high going into Sunday’s game.
Atletico have a full squad to choose from but despite missing Christian Romaric, Adam Pinter and Ivan Obradovic through injury, as well as Movilla and Alvaro Gonzalez through suspension, we believe Zaragoza can get a result here.
Atletico have yet to rediscover their form before the Christmas break and with Real Madrd closing in and Barcelona pulling away, doubts may be beginning to creep in. The price of 1/3 on a victory for the hosts looks a little short so we are going for the double chance of a draw or Zaragoza win at 11/4 (Bet365).
