Kick Off: Monday 8pm. Live on Sky Sports 1
Last Monday night Newcastle took advantage of a soft sending off against Wigan to record their first win in eight, they’ve subsequently lost in eth Europa League to Bordeaux but we’ll forgive their shadow side that one. So are we seeing them get back to the terrific form of last season or were they just fortunate to have an extra man last week?
Beyond that win there’s little to suggest that they can go to Craven Cottage tonight and get a win. They’ve picked up just 4 points from 21 on the road this season and don’t have much of a record in London. Throw in the fact that they’ve lost 4 of the last 5 away to Fulham and you can see why they’re 14/5 (Boylesports, Coral) shots.
But… they could hardly have picked a better time to be going to Fulham. They’re without a win in seven and have failed to score in almost 5 hours of football. Their thin squad is starting to look a little exposed although Hangeland will make a welcome return after suspension.
Both teams sit on 17 points and just 3 goals separate them in the table, so on the face of it there’s nothing to separate them. Arguably the Toon are in slightly better form and with the likes of Ben Arfa returning to the side I think they’re more likely to start climbing the table than Fulham. I’d edge towards backing Newcastle but on with the draw on my side too. So its Betfred’s 7/4 on Newcastle – Draw No Bet for me.
Having already touched on the lack of goals in the Fulham side, and the returning Hangleand side to keep Newcastle out at the other end it could take some patience to see the first goal tonight. With that in mind I like StanJames 1/1 on the first goals coming after the 28th minute.
