Kick off: Saturday, 19th November, 3pm
Despite not having their troubles to seek off the field the Rangers bandwagon rolls on at Ibrox on Saturday as they host St Johnstone in the SPL.
Due to a fogged-up Perthshire last Monday this will be Steve Lomas’ first game in charge of the Saints. It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks for the Northern Irishman since his appointment into the McDairmid Park hotseat but he’ll be aiming for a positive reaction from his squad after he replaced Bristol City-bound Derek McInnes.
The Saints have started the season well and currently sit 4th in the table. They’re still not finding goals easy to come by though but they’ve tightened up at the back and arguably are a better team away from home. Their biggest scalp was a 1-0 at Celtic Park back in August but since then they’ve also won at Kilmarnock and thrashed high-flying Motherwell 3-0 on their own turf.
Of course, they’re huge underdogs in this one but with a new manager and wins against two of the three teams above them already this season, the 12/1 on offer from Paddy Power seems a bit on the generous side.
But that doesn’t take into account Rangers great start to their SPL campaign. Unbeaten in 14 (their 4 dropped points have come in 2 home draws) the Gers look set to wrap up their fourth title. But odds about 1/4 (Bet365) to win this one are way too short to get involved so lets look elsewhere for value.
With two penalties scored in their last two outings it could be worth a dabble on Rangers being awarded another spot kick this week. Saturday’s referee, Euan Norris has gifted the Gers 5 (five) penalties in just three games so he certainly knows where the penalty spots are located down Govan way. Rangers to score a penalty is 10/3 with Paddy Power.
Penalty taker Nikica Jelevic should also be on your list of first goalscorers this weekend. He’ll be on a high after his Croatia side secured their place at Euro 2012 this week and having scored in 7 of Rangers last 9 games he’s a man in form. Take 11/4 (BetVictor) on him to score first or back him at 8/13 (Bet365, Betfred) to score anytime.
