League 2 Betting Preview & Tips

There are some interesting fixtures in League Two this weekend, and hopefully, plenty of chance to win a little money in the process.

Let’s start with Oxford United who are at home to Bury. The U’s drew their opening league fixture at Burton before hitting Bristol Rovers for six in the Carling Cup.

Bury have made a slow start to the season, suffering two 1-0 defeats at the hands of Port Vale and Sheffield Wednesday, but do possess one of the division’s deadliest striker in Andy Bishop.

I have a suspicion that Bury could sneak this game in a tight affair. Bishop and strike partner Ryan Lowe are two very good players at this level and will cause the Oxford defence problems. The 3/1 odds on offer by Betfred seem very generous, despite United’s big win in midweek.

Port Vale have started the season fantastically well. The Valiants beat Bury on the opening day and then went to Loftus Road and produced the shock of the week by beating QPR 3-1 in the Carling Cup.

Vale are at home to Chesterfield and are remarkably odds against to win this home fixture. They can be backed at 5/4 with Bet365 to take the three points. Chesterfield are a decent side, but I can’t see them getting anything from Vale Park.

Justin and Marc Richards (not related) up front for the home side will cause the Spireites defenders endless problems. But for great value, Vale winger Sean Rigg is a massive 12/1 with Coral to add to the goal he scored at QPR with the first strike of this game.

There’s a clash between two teams who met last season in League One as Stockport host Wycombe.

County grabbed a good point away at Southend last weekend, only to be beaten 5-0 at home three days later in the Carling Cup by Preston. In Paul Simpson, they have a good, young manager who will be looking to get his side back on track.

But Wycombe are a good side, who finished last season strongly despite their relegation, and began this season with a 2-0 win over Morecambe. At 5/4 (Stan James), the Chairboys are decent value for the win, and at 6/1 with William Hill you can back Kevin Betsy to score anytime. He is one of their most potent threats and could be worth a punt at that price.
