League 1 Betting Preview & Tips
League One | Paul Harper | August 13, 2010 at 7:13 pm
It’s the second weekend of fixtures in League One and there are some interesting match-ups.
Unfortunately, two of the games have been postponed due to the sad losses of life of Exeter City striker Adam Stansfield and Southampton owner Markus Liebherr.
Top of the table Huddersfield are one of the teams to watch in this division. They cruised to a 3-0 opening day win at Notts County last Saturday and this weekend host Tranmere Rovers.
Rovers were beaten by Oldham in the league on the opening day, and face the daunting task of travelling to the Galpharm Stadium. Huddersfield scored the most goals at home last season (52) and look set to score plenty of goals this campaign too with top strikers in Joe Garner, Jordan Rhodes and Lee Novak.
The Terriers are 1/2 to win the game, so looking for a bit of value, how about a home win by three goals to one which is available at 12/1 with most bookmakers.
Swindon travel up to Hartlepool this weekend looking to improve on their early form which has seen them beat twice 2-1 at home in their first two fixtures. For Swindon boss Danny Wilson, it is a return to a former club, and he will be looking to put one over on his old employers.
They still possess a lot of quality in their squad, including last season’s goal sensation Charlie Austin who bagged a consolation goal against Brighton last Saturday. He will pose the Hartlepool defence no end of problems and could help Swindon to their first win of the season with another goal. He’s 6/1 to open the scoring in this game (Blue Sq, 888 Sport).
Another fascinating game in prospect will be at the Memorial Ground where Bristol Rovers taken on Yeovil Town.
The Gas have had a dreadful start to the campaign. They were beaten 3-0 in the league at Peterborough before further misery came at Oxford on Tuesday in the Carling Cup where they were hammered 6-1.
Yeovil got their league campaign off to a winning start with victory over Leyton Orient last weekend and in striker Dean Bowditch, they have someone who knows where the goal is. He is good value at 8/1 (Coral) for the first goal and Yeovil look a very long price at 11/4 (Ladbrokes, SkyBet) to take the spoils.
League One tips of the weekend:
- Yeovil to beat Bristol Rovers @ 11/4 (Ladbrokes, SkyBet)
- George Boyd to score first goal (Bournemouth v Peterborough) @ 8/1 (Coral)
- Charlton/Draw – half-time/full-time (Leyton Orient v Charlton) @ 14/1 (general)
