Betfair’s “Mystical” Mike Norman correctly predicted six out of six results the last time he previewed the top-flight’s non-TV games, so after an enforced absence with illness here’s hoping his hot streak continues.
Bolton 2.34 v West Ham 3.4; The Draw 3.4
You only have to look at the defensive records of both Bolton and West Ham to understand why they currently find themselves in the drop zone. The Trotters have failed to keep a clean sheet all season whilst The Hammers last recorded a shut-out in August. It’s perhaps safe to assume we’ll get goals tonight then in a game that I envisage ending all-square.
Given the defensive frailties of each side, Over 2.5 Goals looks reasonably priced at 1.98, especially when you consider that this has been the outcome in seven of the last nine meetings between these two clubs. A Correct Score of 2-2 – available to back at 18.0 – should give us a good run for our money, but what price Bolton to record their second 3-3 draw at the Reebok in a matter of days? Well actually, the price is 65.0 – speculative, but not a forlorn hope.
Man Utd 1.2 v Wolves 24.0; The Draw 7.6
Whilst it’s understandable to expect United to concede a goal or two given their current defensive problems, it was still a big surprise to see them fail to score against Villa at the weekend considering the amount of attacking prowess they had on the field. Wolves have been excellent recently, but they will doubtless be expecting a backlash from United and will be happy to keep the score down. I can’t look beyond a home win this evening.
I can see United winning this game comfortable given their need to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat immediately, and I rate Any Unquoted at 4.0 in the Correct Score market my best bet of the night.
If Michael Owen takes to the field it will be his 300th Premier League fixture, so what finer way to celebrate this landmark than by scoring on the night? If you think it will happen then you can back Owen at 2.2 in the To Score market, but let’s also consider Paul Scholes who is stuck on 99 Premier League goals for United. He is available to back at 4.7 To Score and at 10.0 in the First Goalscorer market.
Sunderland 3.05 v Aston Villa 2.56; The Draw 3.4
When you’re struggling to win away from home – as Sunderland are – the pressure to keep picking up points on your own turf becomes more intense as the season goes on. There have been signs in recent weeks that the Black Cats are beginning to crack at the Stadium of Light, and I feel that will be confirmed when Martin O’Neill’s men visit tonight. Back Villa to take all three points at 2.56.
More than half of Villa’s league goals have come in the first half so I’m hoping they can pinch another one and hold on to their lead. Back Villa/Villa at 4.6 in the Half Time/Full Time market as well as Correct Scores of 0-1 and 0-2 – available to back at 9.2 and 14.5 respectively.
- Best Bet: Back Any Unquoted score @ 4.0 in Man Utd v Wolves
- Also: Back The Draw @ 3.4 in Bolton v West Ham; Back Villa HT/ Villa FT @ 4.6 in Sunderland v Villa.
