This re-scheduled game will give us a good indicator as to whether the ‘other’ teams in Scotland can indeed push either of the Glasgow giants all the way in the SPL table. A draw at the weekend means the best United can hope for at the end of the match is to be within a point of Rangers but on recent form you wouldn’t rule it out.

Prior to the original game I posted that I though United were worthy of consideration for the win. Little has happened since then to change my mind.If anything the case looks a little stronger for the Terrors given that Rangers lost at Pittodrie on the only occasion they’ve been seriously challenged since the original match was abandoned.

In fact Rangers’ record in these types of games is pretty appalling; In their last 23 games away from home against teams currently in the top six (Celtic, Hibs, United, Motherwell and Aberdeen) they’ve won just five. Add to that, that in the last 5 meetings at Tannadice, United have won twice, drawn twice and lost once – a 3-0 defeat that clinched the title for Rangers on the final day of last season. That run extends to just 2 wins for Rangers in their last 10 visits to Tannadice. In fact in the last 20 games between the two there have been as many draws as Rangers wins (8 apiece), with United coming out on top in 4. The stats and relative form suggest that there’s something in this game for United.

SkyBet and Boylesports both go best price at 10/3 on the home win, the draw can be backed at 5/2 (Betfred, Sportingbet), whlst only the bravest of Gers fans would take the 1/1 at Canbet on an away win. At those 10/3 odds united look great value, however with the number of recent draws between the two it be safer to take Boylesports 2/1 on United in the Draw No Bet market.
