Watson: Rolling back the years
Lee Westwood is the surprise market leader ahead of the 3rd round of the Open at Turnberry despite the fact he’s 3 shots off the lead on 2 under par. He’s as short as 6/1 with some firms but Betfred go 15/2 on him claiming his first major this weekend.
After another disasterous round Tiger Woods is out of the picture, failing to make the cut and therefore opening up the field for some value in the betting. This leaves some tasty names in the running for the claret jug come tomorrow evening. Goosen (9/1 Paddy Power), Garcia (12/1 Betfred, Paddy Power, Skybet, VCBet), Singh (14/1 Blue Sq, Skybet, Sportingbet, VCBet), Furyk (18/1 Sportingbet) and Jiminez (22/1 Coral, Totesport, William Hill) all stand a chance but it’s 59-year-old Tom Watson who may well attract most interest from punters.
Watson rolled back the years yesterday, sinking two monster put towards the end of his round to tie the lead with rookie Steve Marino on 5 under par. Having been a 125/1 outsider despite lying in 2nd place after round 1, the bookies are now starting to take his challenge a little more seriously and he can be backed at 33/1 (Betfred, Blue Sq, Coral, Paddy Power, Skybet, VCBet, William Hill) to win an unlikely 6th Open.
