Grand National Countdown Begins

Grand National fever is creeping up on us so I thought I’d get the countdown to the most anticapted race of the year with this early preview from Leon Blanche, Head of Public Relations at Boylesports.

We are only days away from the most famous race in the world, the Grand National. A P McCoy has already re-written the history books this year in riding over 3000 winners and he will be looking to do it again on board the Jonjo O’Neill trained Butlers Cabin.

McCoy partnered the horse to land the Irish Grand National in April 2007 and picked him in the 2008 Aintree showpiece, and has been backed from a high of 25/1 into 10/1 joint Favorite with Boylesports.

Vying for the top spot in the Ante Post books is the Paul Nicholls trained My Will. My Will ran a very creditable race in the Gold Cup where he finished in fifth place. That race will have left him spot on and off the current weights he is 8lb better off. Although Nicholls has a poor record in the race you would be foolish to write of this fellow’s chance and at 10/1 he has also been backed down from a high of 25/1.

A big eye catcher for me is Big Fella Thanks. He is jointly owned by Harry Findlay and Paul Barber who of course own Denman. In the Racing Post Chase he was staying on at the finish in a trip that was way too short for his liking. The plan had been to run him in the 4 miler at the Cheltenham Festival but that race was scrapped in favor of him being spot on in Liverpool in the start of April. There was a huge gamble prior to his run at Kempton, and although that has quite in recent weeks, at 16/1 for me that represents great each way value.

Keep your eyes peeled for my exclusive Sweepstake Kit as soon as the final line-up has been confirmed and I’ll be doing a full statistical preview ahead of the big race.
