Man Utd v Chelsea.

Champions v Runners Up.

Berbatov, Rooney & Ronaldo v Lampard, Cole & Drogba.

One of the most exciting games of the season right? Well… erm… No – not exactly!

You’d expect these to put on the best advert for ‘The Greatest League in World’ wouldn’t you? But the truth is that when these two meet it seldom lives up to the hype. More often than not the two sides cancel each other out and we don’t see too much goalmouth action. In the last 4 years they’ve met 15 times and shared just 27 goals. That’s an average of just 1.8 per match – so much for ‘match of the season’.

With question marks over whether Anelka and Drogba can play together and the misfiring of United’s front men it’s easy to see why the bookies are favouring a low-scoring affair at Old Trafford. Blue Sq are the bravest, offering odds of 4/6 on there being under 2.5 goals in the game.

And I think this is worth a punt. The miserly United defence haven’t conceded a league goal in their last 7 games and have lost just 4 in 8 at home all season. If you think that’s miserable, Chelsea are even more stingy – they’ve only lost 9 goals all season and 3 away from home in 10. So don’t be surprised if defences come out on top in this one.

Further evidence to suggest there’ll be few goals is the fact that despite their apparent embarrassment of riches up front United haven’t managed to score more than one goal in their last 6 league games and their dire 0-1 Carling Cup defeat to Derby in midweek couldn’t be salvaged with the introduction of Ronaldo and Rooney who’ve only managed 12 league goals between them.

Since winning 3-0 at West Brom in November, Chelsea have only struck 12 times in 10 games – hardly the form of championship contenders either.

Yep, for me this looks like being Unders all the way and that 4/6 is looking more and more attractive.

I’m also tempted to go for the 0-0 scoreline at 8/1 (Totesport). After Liverpool were held at Stoke by the same scoreline this evening a draw may be the best result all round for everyone and it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s how it plays out. Of course, I’ll be backing ‘No Goalscorer’ instead of the 0-0, just in case someone scores an own goal. Fortunately that’s also available at 8/1 with Totesport too.

Let me know your tips for the big match.

    Maybe you’re a better gambler when you’re drunk :D

Sounded like a fun night on here, shame about that penalty in the last few mins jeanpierre, but good win on the Ravens in the NFL.

I also made a killing on the NFL Divisional games last night going for Baltimore & Arizona – both underdogs & cashing in, so it was a good night!

Not gonna bet the football today as there is not a lot of value but I’ve picked out 4 games to finish over 2.5 goals so I’ll see how they go & if they do – oh well, just testing the water or ice – what with the weather ‘n all :)

    Wigan v Tottenham – Over 2.5
    Bologna v Chievo – Over 2.5
    Sp Gijon v Valladolid – Over 2.5
    Espanyol v Almeria – Over 2.5
