Chelsea v Arsenal – Live on Sky Sports 1. Kick off 4pm

chelsea v arsenal

It’s a measure of the turmoil that Arsenal have been going through that they’re as big as 4/1 (Bet Direct, Betfred, Blue Sq, Boylesports, Ladbrokes, Skybet, Stan James, Totesport, VCBet, William Hill) to win today’s London Derby at Stamford Bridge. In recent years those odds would have been unheard of but when you’ve lost your last 2 league games, demoted your captain, lost your most promising asset to long-term injury and are playing a team that you’ve only beaten once in the last 12 encounters it’s easy to see why the bookies don’t rate Arsenal’s chances very highly.

Chelsea aren’t in the greatest of shape either mind you. 2 wins in their last 6 games is probably the worst run of form the club has seen in a number of years. They’re also without a few key players through injury and suspension including the likes of Joe Cole, Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and Ricardo Carvalho so I wouldn’t be too excited about the short price of 22/25 (Centrebet) on a home win.

No bet for me

It all makes this one hard to call. Chelsea have lost their air of invincibility under Phil Scolari and defeat today would see his honeymoon period well and truly over. For me it all depends on which Arsenal turn up. When they’ve the chance to get the ball down and play football they can be a match for anyone but too often this season they’ve looked bereft of ideas. I really can’t chose a winner so will be looking elsewhere for profit.

Quiet day for the keepers?

In the last 6 league meetings between the two there’s only been one game that has finished Over 2.5 goals. In fact there’s been only 11 goals, an average of less than two per game. There’s been a spate of 0-0 draws in the Premier League of late and I think this looks like a low-scorer today. Under 2.5 goals is on offer at 4/5 with Skybet and I’ll be taking some of that.

By the book for Dean?

Given that I think there’ll be few goals it seems pointless looking at the goal scorer market so looking elsewhere I like the look of the the 9/10 at Bet365 that the total number of cards will be above 5.5. Ref Mike Dean is top of the Premier League referee table for dishing out cards this season, averaging 5 per game and with it likely to be hotly contested derby going on the overs could be the way to go.

Half time stalemate?

I also fancy it to be goalless at half-time as both sides try to get the measure of each other so 5/4 at Ladbrokes on it being level after 45 mins has it’s appeal too.

Good luck if you’re having a punt on this one. Enjoy the game!
