Selectabet’s Big Six: 18th October

I thought I’d get into the action this week and offer up some tips for the weekend’s fixtures, so here’s my Big Six picks;
Arsenal – 2/5 (Bet 365, Coral, Paddy Power, VCBet)
“The Gunners have gained more points (67), achieved more wins (20) and scored more goals (63) against Everton in the Premier League than against any other club” – says it all really.
Arsenal’s form has been up and down of late so they need to start winning – especially at The Emirates. Everton are without the talismanic Cahill as well as having several first choice defenders either injured or doubtful. Short price but an absolute cert.
Manchester City – 6/4 (Bet Direct, Boylesports, Stan James)
Both teams have two big players missing for this but I think it’ll be Michael Owen who will be more sorely missed by Newcastle, rather than Martin Petrov for City. The Blues have won on their last two visits to the Toon and whilst the international weekend gave Newcastle some respite, all is still not well in the North East. 6/4 looks a good price for the away win.
Walsall – 59/50 (Canbet)
Have a good record against Hartlepool, losing just once in the last 8 meetings. Pool have made a slow start to the season and lost four on the road so far (out of 5). A disappointing defeat to promotion chasing Peterbrough kept Walsall out the top six last week but a win today would put them in the mix. They look worth a punt at the right side of evens.
Colchester – 13/5 (Betfred, Coral)
New manager syndrome. Paul Lambert takes charge of his first game as Colchester boss after seeing them lose out in an epic 4-3 defeat at Cheltenham last (when they were 3-1 at one stage). That result could have gone either way and today they visit Stockport, where they have a decent record – winning on their last 2 visits there (overall they’ve won the last 4 matches between the two sides).
Hamilton Accies – 7/5 (888 Sport, Blue Sq, Canbet, William Hill)
They’ve been impressive since making their SPL debut and if they’re to remain in the division they need to be winning games like these. St.Mirren come into this one off the back of a terrific 1-0 win over Rangers but if the Curse of Beating the Old Firm strikes again it will be the Accies who pick up the three points. Home win
Aberdeen – 9/4 (SkyBet)
Aberdeen are unbeaten in the SPL against Falkirk since the Bairns got promoted in 05. Thats’s 9 nine games. Their record at Falkirk in that time is W3 D1 L0. The two Jimmys desperately need a win or the could be out and the Dons two league wins this season have come away from home. Aberdeen at 9/4 (SkyBet) are simply too big to ignore.
Best accumulator odds: £10 pays £1,720.80 at Bet365
Ones to avoid
Liverpool – waaaaaaay too short at 2/5 without Fernando Torres and ahead of a Champions league midweek.
Chelsea – Boro have one of the best records against the Blues and a growing injury list at Stamford Bridge makes them unbackable at 63/100 (Canbet)
MK Dons – Popular with the tipsters but Crewe have a decent record at home to the Dons (winning the last two) and have won more than they’ve lost at home this season.
Good luck whatever you’re betting on today!
