US Open Final Betting: Murray v Federer

WOW! That’s all I can say about Andy Murray’s sensational semi-final win over World Number One, Rafael Nadal. Murray out-powered, out-thought and out-classed the Spaniard to finally prove he has realised his potential and qualify for his first Grand Slam final.
In a simply stunning second day of play at Flushing Meadow Andy Murray rose to the occasion and secured a final berth against Roger Federer to set up what promises to be a fantastic final.
Now the big question is whether Murray has what it takes to become the first Brit to land a major title since Fred Perry? The Scotsman doesn’t make himself easy to like but you have to admire how he has risen up the rankings and as Greg Rusedski put it “finally come of age’” Rusedski thinks it is Murray’s destiny to win the 2008 US Open but the bookies still rate him as 2nd favourite at 13/8 (Bet Direct, Stan James, William Hill).
He’s won more games than he’s lost against Federer but the Swiss is going into his fifth consecutive US Open Final and is no pushover.

He’s endured a telling season, wracked by injuries and crucial defeats by Nadal. But this represents Federer’s best opportunity to signal his return to form and to let the world know he’s not finished yet. The world number two is unbeaten at Flushing Meadows since 2003 so it’s no surprise he’s as short as 4/7 (SkyBet) to win the title.
But he won’t relish the battle with Murray who has shown a mobility and touch around the court that few can match.
I often think when players (or teams) win such epic games, such as Murray has just done against Nadal, that they often struggle to raise their game again for the next match. It’ll be less than 23 hours before Murray has to take to the court again so it’ll be tough mentally and physically for the 21-year-old to match Federer.
13/8 on Murray though is very, very tempting. He was incredible over 2 days in the semi and if he repeats that form Federer will need to be at the absolute top of his game. Having tipped Nadal to get the better of Murray last time round I have to go with the Scot this time.
He’s 11/2 (888 Sport, Bet365, Betfred, Blue Sq) to win this one 3-1 and that looks a good shout.
C’mon Andy!
