Spurs v Dortmund

But for the sale of the talismanic Robbie Keane to Liverpool, Tottenham’s pre-season couldn’t have gone much better. Results on the pitch have been impressive – a couple of 5-1 wins over lower league opposition, plus a comfortable 2-0 win over Scottish champions Celtic – as have the performances. None more so than the free-scoring Darren Bent – now with 8 goals in three games. Robbie who?

Juande Ramos has the chance to pick up his 2nd piece of silverware as Spurs boss in Feyenoord’s Jubilee Tournament this afternoon. A win or a draw against Dortmund would be enough to win the trophy and the Spaniard who has a great cup record will no doubt like to get the season off to a winning start before it’s even begun.

Despite being linked with almost every striker that’s hit the back of the net, Ramos must be pleased with how his team have shaped up so far. Modric looks comfortable directing play in the midfield and it looks like a real gem has been unearthed in Giovanni. The capture of Bentley from Blackburn looks like it’ll be a good piece of business and if Spurs can add any one of Arshavin, Pavyluchenko or even Forlan(?!?) to the front line then the Spurs fans can look forward to the new season with their perennial optimism.

Today they face a Borussia Dortmund side who’s season also kicks-off in two weeks time. They’ll be desperate to improve on last year’s disappointing 13th place finish in the Bundesliga this time around. A 2-1 win over Feyenoord on Friday suggests better times lie ahead but I still expect Spurs to be too strong for the Germans.

The bookies seem to agree, with Skybet making Spurs clear favourites at 11/10. This looks a decent price and worth a small punt.

With Darren Bent in sizzling form the striker is surprisingly behind Barbatov in the betting to break the deadlock. He’s 7/1 (Bet365) to net first whilst the Bulgarian is best price at 6/1 (Coral). Just to score in the 90 minutes, Bent is an attractive 2/1 (Coral), whihc looks ike a good option. David Bentley is 100/30 (Coral) to make it 2 in 2 for Spurs.
