When is a tip not a tip?

It’s not very often I have a punt on the horses but last week I got this text message from a mate;

tip form trainer in ireland. raise the goblet. E.way. Galway. monday. 28th July.

Hardly a ringing endorsement but I know this guy’s had a few winners in the past. Then again, like most punters, he probably only tells me about the ones that win. Anyway I thought I’d check it out.

Monday. Galway. No sign of it.

I ran it past the guys at TDP. The feedback wasn’t good;

“I wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole on Monday. Second race for a new trainer who has entered it for three races at the Galway festival.

Two of them are at 2 miles so he’s obviously seen something that makes him fancy a crack at that trip which it’s unproven over. The third one is on Wednesday and is at 1 mile 4 which it is proven over.”

So I thought, if it’s out Wednesday I’ll give it go.

Just checked and it’s in the 6.20 tonight. I was expecting a big price but it’s currently 2nd favourite of the 19 runners at 13/2 (Ladbrokes, Paddy Power).

I hate it when this happens. Everything is telling me not to back it but I just know that I’ll be seriously kicking myself if it hacks up.

Anyway, I’ve put it out there… Raise The Goblet, 6.20 at Galway.

If you fancy it go for it but you have been warned! ;)
