Wimbledon: Murray still 25/1 to win title
Betting, Bookmakers, Fixed Odds, Tennis, Wimbledon | selectabet | June 29, 2008 at 9:51 amWith the demise of 3rd seed Novak Djokovic and number 6 seed Andy Roddick, British hope Andy Murray is now clear third favourite for the Wimbledon crown behind the two heavyweights, Federer and Nadal. With three impressive week one wins under his belt some bookies are quoting just 14/1 on Murray lifting the famous old trophy on Sunday but Centrebet have put their head above the parapet and are leading the market with a price of 25/1 on the Scotsman being the champ. It’s a decent price but even at 25s I’m not tempted.

Both Federer and Nadal have breezed through their first 3 round and it’s looking inevitable that they’ll meet on centre court in the final. Federer is 67/100 with Canbet and Nadal is best priced at 47/25, also with Canbet.
A Federer/Nadal final is just 4/7 (VCBet) and you can have 5/4 about any other final, also with VCBet.
Murray’s next opponent is last year’s semi-finalist Richard Gasquet, who is available at 33/1 (Canbet). He’s second best to get past Murray, with Bet365 and BetInternet offering 6/5 that he win their match on Monday. Murray is just 8/11 (Betfred) to get the better of the Frenchman.
Other outsiders in the betting include Baghdatis (40/1 Canbet), Safin (50/1 Centrebet), Tipsarevic (50/1 Canbet), Ancic (66/1 Centrebet) and former Wimbledon Champion, Leyton Hewitt (100/1 Canbet, Totesport).
