Portugal cemented their tag as one of the tournaments favourites last night with an emphatic 3-1 win over Czech Republic. Spain have already sparkled in Group D and the Dutch blew away the Italians to lay down their Euro 2008 marker. Germany simply got the job done in their opener against Poland but have a chance tonight to prove why they’ve attracted more money that anyone else in this tournament.

Whilst there’s a lot to like about Slaven Bilic’s Croatian side, they still look a bit toothless up front without Eduardo and that ultimately could be their undoing tonight and in the tournament as a whole. A solitary penalty strike by Luca Modric in their opener against Austria was enough to win the 3 points but they looked far from convincing. I didn’t see too much in that one that should trouble the German back line.

Germany however, strolled to their first win against Poland. Podolski netted twice and Klose should’ve bagged at least one. Ballack dominated the midfield at times but barely seemed to break sweat. I get the feeling will be able to move up through the gears as the tournament progresses. They’ve strength in depth and would love nothing more than to win tonight and be able to rest a few bodies ahead of a quarter final clash against Czech Republic or Turkey.

It might be a tight one tonight but I’ve tipped Miroslav Klose to be top scorer and I fancy him to find the net tonight. He’s 6/1 (Coral) to open the scoring and 7/4 (Coral) to score at anytime.

But the bet for me is to side with Germany. They’re 3/4 (Paddy Power) to win the match an I think they can do so quite comfortably.
