Who Will Win The…

Championship races are hotting up in Leagues and Competitions throughout the UK and Europe and with the transfer window slamming shut at midnight tonight teams are gearing themselves up for the crucial final months of the season. I thought I’d take a look at the odds on who will win what before the season is over…

English Premier League

With Liverpool dropping a further 3 points at West Ham last night it looks like we’re down to a 3-horse race in this one. Man Utd look irresistable at the moment and Ronaldo is playing at a different level and it’s no wonder the bookies have them as clear favourites despite being level on points with Arsenal. Chelsea seem to be moving along quite nicely, quietly picking up 3 points with steady, if unspectacular performances. It’s hard to see past United in current form but at 3/5 they’re a very short price.

Coca Cola Championship

West Brom were among the pre-season favourites to lift the Championship title this season but they’ve take a long route to getting to the to spot which they currently share with Bristol Rovers. Bookies have them favourites to still be there come the end of the season. Despite their lofty position, Bristol Rovers are ranked just 6th best and can be backed at 16/1, instead the bookies have Watford as the Baggies biggest threat. In terms of outsiders, Wolves have been on a good run of late but they’d need a Sunderland-esque run till the end of the season to land the 25/1 odds.

FA Cup

Just 6 Premier League teams are still standing in this year’s FA Cup so are we in line for an upset? Well, no! Of the 6, the big 4 are still in there. Only a fortunate draw will see one of the ‘lesser’ teams grace the Wembley turf come May. But it’s not out of the question. The last time Middlesbrough made it to the final they managed to avoid a top division side all the way to the final and who knows, maybe they can make it all the way again – they’re 25/1 to go on and win the Cup but you’d have to thinnk they’ll need to beat one of the big ‘uns on the way. For me it looks like one of the usual suspects – take your pick from Man Utd, Chelsea, Arenal or Liverpool;

Scottish Premier League

In Scotland, as ever, it’s down to a two-horse race, but this time it’s Rangers who are in pole position. They sit 4 points clear of their great rivals Celtic going into February. The Bhoys have strengthened in January, whilst Rangers have lost key man Hutton and tried to shift Cousin on to Fulham so will the pendulum swing back towards the East End of the city in the coming months? The bookies don’t seem to think so…

Champions League

Of all the trophis left to play for this could be the most difficult to call. With 5 British teams still involved will this year see the big cup return to these shores? Whilst Chelsea are the shortest price of the Brits, Celtic are rank outsiders of the entire field to lift the trophy. The Scottish champions will have their wokr cut out just to make it into the last 16 after being paired with tournament favourites Barcelona in the next round. It’s all very open for me and I think with a good draw, Man Utd could go all the way.
