Hatton v Mayweather. C’mon Rickaaaaaaay!

It’s Britain versus America, braun versus bling, good versus evil and Ricky must win for the sake of boxing and common decency. Mayweather seems to be a thoroughly dislikeable chap, disdainful in his attitude to Hatton, the press and every other human being on the planet. Whereas The Hitman is an all round good guy who’d buy you a nice pint of Guinness down the pub – a true Sporting Personality – but more of that later.
I’m getting a bit concerned though, all week the (non-educated) pundits have raved about how Ricky is going to do this and do that to Mayweather but as the fight draws closer those with a more considered and dare I say knowledgeable opinion are shedding a slightly different hue on how this one might pan out. The experts reckon Mayweather is the better fighter, more experienced at this level with quicker hands and even quicker feet. Hatton is apparently technically inferior but with a Big Heart (© any random pundit) and is capable of causing Mayweather problems he’s never had to face before. So from a betting point of view, where do you place your money?
Well the bookies aren’t often wrong, are they? And they’ve installed Mayweather as a clear favourite, with the best price available being 8/13 at Paddy Power. For Hatton to win the best price is 17/10 with Centrebet. The bookies fear a Hatton win, they’ll stand to lose millions as the Brits pile in to back their boy, so that suggests to me that Hatton is a shorter price than he should be and doesn’t represent proper value.
Many experts are claiming its too close to call so chances are it will go the distance. If that’s the case then the odds look a bit more tasty; Boylesports have Mayweather at 6/5 to win points, whilst you can have as much as 9/2 at Ladbrokes on Hatton winning it after the final bell.
I think I might just have a small wager on that 9/2 at Ladbrokes.
Should Hatton pull off one of the best reults in British boxing history then I think the big payout at the bookies could be the following night when the BBC’s Sports Personailty of the Year Awards take place. The Mancunian currently sits as 2nd favourite behind Lewis Hamilton (who is 2/5 at Bet365, Paddy Power, Skybet & Stan James) but a win in the early hours will surely propel him into the frame to pick up the award. We all know that Hamilton is well capable of blowing his lead (sorry I couldn’t resist) and it might pay to get on Hatton at 11/4 with Boylesports or Coral.
Good luck Ricky and win us a few quid!
