I can’t say I care too much for this as a competition, unfortunately the same can be said for many of the teams taking part which makes it a bit of a minefield as a betting event. Many teams will be trying to remain focused on their League campaign, whilst others will see this as an opportunity for a Wembley final or even silverware. On current form, Leeds away to Darlington looks a stand-out but I would steer clear. Dennis Wise might view it as opportunity to give a few fringe players a run out, and Darlington will be up for taking a famous scalp. No bet for me.

In terms of motivation, last years finalists, Bristol Rovers know the value of reaching the final to a club and might just fancy doing the same this year round. They host Bournemouth who seem to have stumbled into a bit of an injury crisis. I’d be having the home win here, Bristol Rovers are best priced at 8/11 with Paddy Power, Stan James and Skybet.

A full division separates Carlisle and Chester and it should be an interesting match between two teams who have picked up decent results of late. Bobby Williamson’s Chester have won their last 3, while Carlisle are unbeaten in their last 4, but I think home advantage and a slight difference in class will result in a home win in this one. Back Carlisle at 4/6 with BlueSq, Skybet or William Hill.

The Bristol Rovers, Carlisle double pays £28.79 for a tenner at Skybet.
