Scottish Football Weekend Betting Preview
Betting, Chit-Chat, Fixed Odds, Football, General Posts | jimmyhillsbeard | August 17, 2007 at 9:12 pmThe weekend starts here. I’ve been having a little look at some of the fixtures in Scotland and from what I’ve seen there’s money to be made this weekend.
Scottish Premier League
The form hasn’t really settled down yet this season as we’re only two games in so I’ll be giving a wide berth to the Motherwell v Kilmarnock game as both have got off to a decent start, albeit maybe a little fortuitous to find themselves at the top end of the table. Rangers take on Falkirk at Ibrox in what should be a comfortable home win, although the odds are too short to give serious consideration.
Hibs have a great recent record against Dundee Utd, losing just once and winning 7 of the last 10 meetings. I’m just not sure about this Hibs team this season. United have made a decent start this season, and but for a couple late goals lost to Kilmarnock would find themselves in a strong early position – I think I’ll leave this one alone too. I predicted that Inverness would struggle this term and tomorrow might be a good opportunity to cash in. They’re away to St.Mirren and I think it might be worthwhile backing the Buddies to win at 11/8 with BetDirect.
Hearts should see off a Gretna team that look like they are in for a long season. Despite Hearts poor start (1 point from 6) they should have more than enough to see off the borders-side who have shipped 8 goals in two games. Sunday sees Celtic travel up to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen. Celtic have the fatigue of a round trip to Moscow to deal with and always find it tough in the Granite City. The Dons will be hoping to kick-start their season with a good home win and I think this one could be too close to call.
If forced to pick a few selections I’d go win St. Mirren on Asian Handicap (0) at 57/50 with BetDirect, Rangers win 1/4 at Canbet, Hearts win 41/100 at PortlandBet
Scottish Divisions 1/2/3
Into the lower leagues now, and there appear to be a few value bets at first glance.
One to watch may well be Morton away to Stirling Albion. Morton have got off to a flier in the First Division and they’ll continue to surprise a few teams for the coming weeks. They could be capable of pulling off another impressive win to make it 3 out of 3. They can be backed at 13/10 with SportingBet.
Raith Rovers, who have been in fine form so far look a banker home to Alloa in the Second Division and the 1/2 available at BetFred will probably be gone in the morning. One for the accumulators out there.
In the third, East Fife should take care of Elgin who have struggled so far and aren’t showing many signs of improvement. The 1/2 at SportingBet is still a bit on the short side though. The other match to catch the eye is the impressive Montrose, away to Stranraer. The price on Montrose has been tumbling all day and they’re a best priced 9/4 at BetDirect. you might also want to consider the 3/5 about them on at Asian Handicap at Bet365 with +0.5 of a start. This could be the bet of the day.
Good luck with whatever you go with. Let me know if you have any winners!
